Our range of individual product pages show their own specifications. Below are our general build specifications:
To ensure we supply you with a superior product, we’ll carefully craft it from an outer layer of cladding over Redwood studwork. You can choose either vertical tongued and grooved (TGV), or horizontal shiplap, both in high quality, slow-grown Scandinavian Redwood. Or you can opt for unpainted Western Red Cedar Shingles for an entirely different look.
Whichever you choose, all our cladding and framing is pressure-treated against rot and insect attack. The external cladding is then painted with shellac based stain block primer and finished with two coats of Tikkurila Ultra. This hard-wearing paint is the best that we have found: manufactured in Finland, it is made to withstand the harsh Scandinavian climate.
We take pride in the external finish and all nail and screw holes are filled prior to painting.
The walls, roof and floor are enveloped with a vapour barrier which ensures wind-driven rain and rising damp cannot penetrate, whilst still allowing the building to breathe.
The floor is constructed from 18mm exterior plywood screwed to pressure treated bearers.
Insulated walls and floor are available as an extra cost option.
Our doors and windows are crafted from joinery quality Scandinavian Redwood.
Hand made in our own workshops, all of our joints utilise mortise and tenon construction, ensuring a robust and long-lasting product. They are also treated against rot and insect attack, primed and then finished in two coats of Tikkurila Ultra paint.
We use domestic quality glass as standard for windows, and safety glass in the door. Maintained properly, our joinery will give many years of service.
We give you a choice of black or real brass door and window furniture as standard. Stainless steel is also available as an extra cost option.
Our pitched roofs are robustly constructed from external grade ply screwed to rafters. This is covered with a high quality breathable vapour barrier, battened and then tiled.
You can choose one of two high quality coverings for your roof: Cedar shingles or Tapco man-made slate. As befits a premium product, we do not use mineral felt or similar.
All our barges and fascias are treated, primed and painted in two coats of Tikkurila Ultra.
Western Red Cedar
We only use premium quality shingles sourced from sustainable forests in Canada. Cedar is a beautiful and highly durable wood roof and wall covering. It contains natural oils, helping to preserve the wood against decay and insect attacks, making it maintenance-free. Starting off as a dark red/brown the colour naturally changes over the years to a silvery grey. If desired, it can be treated to help maintain its original colour.
Tapco slates are manufactured from a lightweight mixture of recyclable plastic and Dolomite limestone and are used extensively in North American house building. They have similar aesthetic qualities to natural slate with a random textured face and edge. In addition they benefit from being recyclable. Fully tested and certified, and backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty, they have excellent weathering characteristics and will not curl, lift or delaminate.
